Hazard identification (HAZID) is the first step of the risk assessment process and functions to identify and assess/suggest appropriate prevention, mitigation and control measures for hazards present within a plant or facility. The HAZID review will also evaluate the adequacy of safeguards available and propose additional safeguards where deficiencies are identified. The effectiveness of the HAZID approach is highly dependent upon the expertise of the personnel involved in the HAZID review. 

This course will give learners an overview of the HAZID methodology process, key roles expected of the participants, and commonly employed reporting methods. This course’s content is learner-centric, emphasising practical knowledge sharing by experienced instructors who have facilitated numerous HAZID workshops.

Upon completion of the training, learners will be able to:

1. Understand the importance of clearly defined hazards specific to a given facility and the potential benefits
2. Learn common approaches employed to carry out hazard identification (HAZID)
3. Recognize the role which they play as individuals within the HAZID process to maximise its effectiveness
4. Learn means to categorise hazards, especially identification of Major Accident Hazard (MAH)
5. Understand key outcomes from HAZID studies

This self-paced eLearning course on Process Safety Management is positioned at the awareness/introductory level. This course will take approximately 4-hours and is intended to give participants an understanding of crucial constituent parts of adequate Process Safety Management arrangements and how they operate.
